Walls, Windows & Floors: Children's Artwork Collage by Jan Eleni

Here's an answer to the perennial question of what to do with your vast collection of children's artworks: collages made from photos of individual art projects. New York City-based designer Jan Eleni, who specializes in family houses (see a NYC home she designed here), creates gallery-worthy custom collages using images of your child's artwork.

Eleni offers two versions of her collages: The original version is made of hand-cut archival-quality images professionally framed, with prices starting at $3,800. "The collages are a labor of love and very time consuming (I even iron out the artwork if needed)," Eleni says. She also offers a less-expensive custom collage that is professionally printed on one large sheet using pigmented inks; prices start at $750 for a 36-by-26-inch unframed print of 40 images; larger sizes are available as well. Contact Jan Elani for more information and to order.

Above: For her first collage, Eleni photographed 112 pieces of her children's art and fitted the photos into a grid, creating a colorful collage documenting a year's worth of creations.

Above: Each image is about the size of a business card; Eleni balances horizontally and vertically oriented images to create a balanced composition.

Presenting our favorite, off-the-rack gallery-style picture frames. Have a favorite economical frame source? We'd love to hear about it.

Above: Ribba frames from Ikea have a 1.5-inch profile, are made of fiberboard, come with PH-neutral mats, and are available in white or black (some of the larger sizes come in additional finishes, including birch veneer, walnut effect, and aluminum). The 9-Inch-Square Ribba Frame (above L) is $9.99 and the 28 3/4-by-20 7/8-inch Large Rectangular Ribba Frame is $19.99.

Above: West Elm's Gallery Frames come in a range of standard US photo sizes. Made of composite wood, the frames are available in black or white and come with a removable white mat (the larger sizes are also available in a silver painted finish with a natural linen mat). Prices range from $12 for a 5-by-7-inch frame to $54 for the silver 18-by-24-inch frame.

Above: The CB2 Gallery Frame Set includes three aluminum frames with white mats; two are configured to hold 4-by-6-inch photos and one is configured to hold a 5-by-7-inch photo; $99.85.

Available in five sizes, including the 20-inch-square (above L) Black Profile Frame for $69 and  the 16-by-20-inch Walnut Profile Frame for $69. Prices range from $39 to $89, depending on size and finish.

SPONSORED POST

A winner of the myMarvin Architect's Challenge, the Lamson-West Residence by architect John Senhauser is located on a wooded site traversed by a creek in suburban Cincinnati. Senhauser conceived of the project as "21st century log cabin," featuring post-and-beam construction, an open plan, lofty ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling Marvin windows that flood the interior with light. The exterior walls are constructed of solid cypress logs obtained from a local mill, and the wooden Marvin windows are clad in aluminum on the exterior. The structure features a grass roof and flooring milled from the walnut trees cleared from the property during construction.

For anyone embarking on a remodeling or construction project, Marvin offers the myMarvin Remodeling Planner, a free, easy-to-use tool that allows you to create room layouts for your entire house using your own dimensions. Start with a floor plan, add furniture, windows and doorways. View from above or in elevation view (there's also a budget calculator and scrapbook for storing your own images).

Today kicks off the International Builders' Show in Orlando, Florida. Marvin Windows and Doors will be sharing the latest and greatest from the show floor; follow them at Twitter/MarvinWindows to learn about the newest products and latest trends in home design.

For a recent exhibition of art and furniture, London dealer Stephen Friedman came up with an novel concept; he invited six prominent collectors from around the world to act as curators (the participants chose works by seminal artists from their collections), with the artworks displayed in room settings created by American interior designer and private furniture dealer Vance Trimble. The result, on display last summer, was a series of rooms—entrance hall, study, library, bedroom, sitting room—furnished with mid-century Scandinavian design pieces, including a rare Finn Juhl sideboard, wooden tables by Poul Kjaerholm, and four-shade pendant lamps in amber glass by Poul Henningson. To read more about the project, go to the Stephen Friedman Gallery.
