Designer and stylist Mary Mulcahy launched her Les Indiennes line of hand-blocked fabrics in 2002, after her own dead-end search for simple repeating patterned fabrics. Mulcahy teamed up with Srinivas Pitchuka, an Indian artisan, and together they took traditional designs and simplified them by isolating single motifs and elegantly spacing them on a creamy white background, using the traditional Kalamkari method (and natural dyes and organic cotton). In recent years, Mulcahy has expanded her product line to include furniture, table linens, paper goods, small accessories, as well as wallpaper. The current collection of Les Indiennes IVM wallpaper includes limited-edition paper rolls that are hand-block-printed in natural indigo or chocolate brown on recycled cotton paper that's stitched together to form a long, vertical wall hanging. Measuring 20 inches wide by 10 feet long, the paper is $140 per roll at Les Indiennes online store.
